The Nov.11, 2011 of the Huntington Post loudly trumpeted " Romney brazenly lies and the media lets him slide" and goes on to accuse him of running "dishonest ads", of being deceitful and that the media fails to challenge and expose him. What boundaries have the media set and how far is Romney prepared to go?
The answer is, Romney will go as far as he is allowed to by the media and it would seem that they have given him a long rope and he is using all of it. There have been some fact- checks by ABC Evening News and CNN's Reliable source but little else. As such Romney continues to operate at the borders of the truth and he has alolowed the various pro-Romney groups to spend tens of millions distributing lies, playing upon the ignorance of the voters and appealing to their emotions.
This has brought out the worst. Not only the lies but the distortions have allowed the spectre of Racism and Extremiam to rear its ugly head. The Birthers are back and so are the amen lobby attacking President Obama on everything from his patriotism to his religion to his citizenship and not even a "tut-tut" from Romney
Unlike Mc Cain, four years ago, who to his credit quickly made it clear that he will not get in the filth and immediately put a stop to it, Romney has turned a blind eye and a deaf ear and thus through his silence has endorsed the filth.
Mitt Romney has made it very evident that he will do whatever, say whatever and allow his supporters to indulge in whatever is necessary to win.
So as the days start rolling by and the election gets closer and closer, the signs are that this will be an election where Romney and his coterie will use any and every dirty tricks, whether it be appealing to racial prejudice, catering to extremism or subjecting the country to vile attack ads and character assassination.
It is total war.
