Sen. Joe Biden is a wooden and uninspiring speaker. His choice is unremarkable. He may have been a senator for over 30 years and may have sat on defence and foreign affairs committees, but he has shown little expertise and /or grasp off any of the pressing issues, whether it be Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, the Middle East or anywhere else. Check the records .
He is at best pedestrain in speech and analysis. He even had some problems explaining some embellishments of his academic qualifications. He may have entertained thoughts of being president, by entering the race in the past, but it was more to get some attention and media exposure . He had absolutely no chance and soon dropped out.
What does he bring to the ticket? He is from a small state, so that's not it. He has not demonstrated taht he can motivate. He is not an articulate or riveting speaker.......he reminds me of former Pres. Ford., so that's not it or maybe it is, because he will definitely not overshadow Obama. He will make Obama look and seem even more mesmerising. He is white, he is older and so far has managed to keep out of trouble. That is what he brings to the ticket. He balances the young. untested and inexperienced Afro-American. He is non-threatening and somewhat goofy, a 65 year old solid citizen. Whatever it is that Obama and his vetting committee saw in him, as opposed to so many others, the choice is made. Maybe he will surprise us and be another Truman or Mondale. Time will tell. It is a choice that will create some buzzzzzzzzzzzz.

An interesting twist now the McCain has announced Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate, it's ironic how Obama made his decision was influenced by the need to bring solidity to his campaign while McCain's choice is to introduce vitality and interest. Also neither of the two running mates are extraordinary in any aspect. Like afore mentioned, Biden is unremarkable and Palin has a rather short political resume. Americans will have to swallow having either a black president or a woman vice president. It can only get more entertaining here on in :)

Hannah, my thoughts exactly...My mouth literally dropped to the ground. this is going to have to be the most interesting battle for presidency! One comment that McCain made that slightly bothered me was when he annouced that Palin was a woman who knew who her boss was and who stood up for herself. To me that seems contradictory. To me it says all you voters out there who may be worried about a women taking control, dont worry about it because when it comes down to it, im the boss and she will do what i want. I may be a little harsh but thats the way i read into it. she is young and, as hannah said, not that experienced and perhaps easily influenced or persuaded??? but McCain definitley made a big move. Im really interested in hearing your response to this new annoucement and its influence, if any, it will have on the voters!

Sorry.. a little edit. McCain's words were "She knows where she comes from and she knows who she works for. She stands up for what's right and she doesn't let anyone tell her when to sit down."

It is a complete contradictory. I really believe McCain is trying to appeal to all the voters (specifically women) who wanted to see Clinton as the next president, but at the same time he wants to emphasize that he is still the boss. Yes Palin might "stand(s) up for what's right" but only what the Republican party and McCain decide is right. Sort of a gender loophole for McCain. Unfortunately although she is supposed to attract Clinton supporters, her lack of experience in the political world makes her a pale and unsatisfying replacement for Hilary.
