The game of chicken is over and the barnyard bully is trying to wheedle his way back to power. He has let loose the proverbial opposition foxes in the henhouse and there is feathers flying everywhere. Not only the opposition, but his own caucus smell blood and they are circling, waiting for the kill. In his desperation to save his hide, he is going hat in hand to the G.G. to try his final ploy.... prorogation. The G.G. should send him back with the proviso, that he work something out with the Opposition.
What started out as an economic crisis has been turned into a political crisis, and in his quest to remain in power, into a unity crisis. This will backfire in Quebec. The language that he has used in parliament was hateful, intemperate and divisive. It reveals the real Harper sans his fuzzy, feel-good sweater.
Canada has a Westminister style , parliamentary democracy. Elections decide who wield power and when that power can be taken away. A vote of non-confidence is the way Parliament maintain control, and ensure that the majority rule. How that majority is formed is left to the members of parliament and their political party and leader. A coalition gov't is one way to ensure that majority. There is nothing unparliamentary, illegimate or un-Canadian about it. Harper and his cronies are misleading the people to suggest otherwise. They should heed the wisdom of the Talmud. which warns that " the leaders must not tell the peolpe what they cannot hear ". Sowimg dissension and division can lead to dangerous and unforseen consequences.
The Bloc Quebecois is a legal and legitimate political party. To question this is to question the legality and legitimacy of the whole electoral process. The supreme law of the land...the Constitution gives them legality, and the voters gave them legitimacy, when they opted to vote for them. They are an integral part of the democracy that is Canada. You may not like their politics but you cannot demonise them in the manner that Harper and his minions have done. In the past both Harper and before him, Stockwelhl Day gave sought and used their help against the Liberals. To now attack them in this manner is not only disingenous, it is dishonest and tawdry.
